The festival @ LUNCH: Perpetual Song

Australia

This program links two works of deep personal inspiration and emotional strength. The great Czech nationalist Smetana speaks directly from the heart to reflect upon the death of his daughter Fritzi. Written when Smetana was enduring persecution for promoting Czech independence, the trio gives voice to a sense of hope for the future that finally emerges after an impassioned and turbulent musical journey. Latvia’s pre-eminent composer Vasks stands alongside his contemporaries in the quest for a music of profound spiritual depth. This work essays his search for love, a theme which resonates with every listener.
